Reviews…

October 27, 2006 | 5 Comments

I’m feeling happy this morning. The caffeine helps and my daughter’s coming home from uni for the weekend. After a bit of a ‘mare of a week, I’ve had a great feature and review in the Books section in the Birmingham Post which is a big and serious regional broadsheet. I have also some fun reviews on Amazon. It’s always scary pushing your baby out there in the big world (and it’s happened twice this month). But glad to hear that so many people are enjoying it. What’s most fascinating is when someone really likes the book - but for reasons I had never spotted! I had a shock to find my face grinning out at me and may post it after the 9pm watershed. But here’s the review…:)

“It’s so well written it carries you along and proves a gripping read with misunderstandings all the way as the plot ducks and dives through agony and ecstasy. This is definitely a book for women who hanker after falling into the arms of knights on white chargers coming to their rescue. It even reminds me of Georgette Heyer’s regency romances.”

Thanks for letting me post that. I needed it.

Guten Tag and G’day

October 18, 2006 | Comments

Sorry for the corny title. I just wanted to say hello to the C19ers in Australia and Germany who have bought, read and posted comments on the Richard Armitage messageboards about Decent Exposure. Thanks to those ladies who bought it from Borders in Melbourne and in Canberra. I still haven’t seen one in Lichfield.
Here’s a description, in German, of the book, by Andromeda.

This also gives me an opportunity for a gratuitous photograph of Richard Armitage. BTW I’ve called the hero in my new novel, Wish You Were Here, Jack Thornfield. I wondered where I got that from.

Number one on Play.com

October 16, 2006 | 3 Comments

Got back from a hard day’s work (real work) to find that I’m Number One on their romance charts and and the ‘Editor’s Choice’ on play.com. Now, I expect this is one of those clever marketing tricks (like I’ve been chosen for a diamond encusted credit card or won a ‘free’ holiday in Tenerife). Or it could be that everyone from C19 has ordered their books from play.com but hey, it’s a great feeling!

Thank you everyone who has bought or read the book. I’ll post some more reviews later and a pic of it in Ottakars (now Waterstones), Stafford. Oh and one lady has seen three on the shelves on her bookshop in Canberra, Oz.:)

I need therapy. Or a bucket of cold water. Or something. ‘Scuse me while I get wildly over-excited again…

And here’s a pic of ‘IT’ on the shelves of Ottakars in Stafford.

Decent Exposure

Hurrah!

October 15, 2006 | 3 Comments

About an hour ago (don’t hold your breath…) my broadband Internet connection was restored. I am very happy - in fact, far too happy. It set me thinking about just how much we rely on the Internet. I use it to run my copywriting business and also over the past 3 weeks I have been trying to organise the launch of Decent Exposure. With only dial-up on the laptop, that was difficult - without any Internet it was impossible.

But it is too late for us to go back now. Almost everyone depends on 24/7 Internet access. And you know what? Not being able to operate the business effectively was stressful but just as bad was losing the social interaction with my cyber friends and colleagues. I missed you C19ers, M&Pers and friends. Writing and being self employed are lonely existences. With a daughter just off to uni too, the whole combo was a pretty unpleasant.

Anyway - I really hope my broadband is back for good. Now I can post pics of the launch and the book and hunky blokes including Mr Bennet.

Love

Pip x

PS Miss Bennet and her friends came across Pierce Brosnan in a punt in Oxford yesterday. Apparently he’s gorgeous and a lovely guy. A Great Big Thanks to the Fresher posse for this exclusive picture:Pierce

Cut off in my prime…

October 14, 2006 | Comments

Hi there

Got back from a week in the Lakes today to find BT had still not restored my broadband but had also cut off my phone line. So once again I am at the sports club writing this with a coffee. I’ve had a great week, walking, eating, drinking and chilling out. Thanks for all the lovely comments about Decent Exposure but I still haven’t seen one personally in the shops. However I do have a photo of the books at Ottakars Stafford with ‘Signed by The Author’ stickers on them. That is SO cool. :)  Thanks to Janice and her staff for the display and for not putting me next to the pop-up kama sutra…

I’m experiencing some of the highs and a few of the lows of being A Published Author at the moment. 99% of the time , you get nothing but goodwill but there are a few niggles (I nearly wrote knickers there). You often find that the badwill comes from sources with a hidden agenda. The great thing about being an author - or a writer - of any mkind - is that any experience - and the not-so-nice ones in particular - can all be stored and used in your writing. It is wonderful therapy! Being part of the RNA and romance writing community is also a great support. I’ve had some excellent and very useful advice throughout the process - one of the best being from a very ‘tender’ author who told me not to worry about anything before i was published as there was plenty to worry about afterwards! She was right but I still wouldn’t swap the job for the world (unless it contained Guy of Gisbourne in black leather).

I’m hoping to post some of the reviews from Amazon and C19 here and a pic of the book in situ as soon as I can.

Hi to all the people who helped me celebrate the launch, either physically or in cyber-space. And do visit Jess’s blog and Nell’s blogs - links opposite - to find out what they are up to right now.
