London calling

January 31, 2007

It’s turning out to be a busy but very good week so far. Getting the email about the NWS award on Sunday night was a great boost as I wasn’t sure if I’d missed out on entering. Howeve, the RNA are very organised (unlike me.)

I’m off to London tomorrow until Friday night and excited as usual. I’m going on business but mainly pleasure. I set off on the afternoon train from our quiet on-the-edge-of-town-station. There are usually only a handful of people waiting on the platform and the train is very quiet until Coventry or Milton Keynes. Under two hours later I step out into Euston. I know I should grow up and not act like Dick Whittington but that’s how I feel. The bright lights, traffic, shops and buzz are fab. I’m getting used to it now but I’ll never forget the first time I went to the RNA party, to meet my agent and to visit my editor at Headline, all within 12 hours. Somewhere about Rugby, I had a moment of overwheming panic and disorientation but fortunately there was no one else in the carriage to watch me dissolve!

Running into trouble

January 28, 2007

Still no definite writing news from me so I am going to digress wildly. Talk amongst yourselves for a moment while I do this. This post is for my friends and fellow runners at Lichfield Running Club. I say fellow runners, because I don’t actually run much these days. A little and thoroughly persistent bugger of a problem with Achilles tendonitis which has just come back again for the third time…Anyway, I suggested setting up a blog for a fabulous running event that is the Lichfield 10k road race. Held in September, around Lichfield and surrounding countryside, funnily enough. A fast, flat/undulating course, a big field, friendly marshalls, excellent organisation, a witty MC…

I LOVE running, I loved the camaraderie, I loved being out in the fresh air, I loved losing half a stone and getting in size 10 trousers while eating the contents of the fridge. I even quite liked the running club trainer’s anecdotes as I threw up in the park.

Today has been a VGD

January 25, 2007

Yes, today has been a very good day. I can’t tell you why yet but it has been one of the better ones I’ve had lately. I spent it driving around Stoke-on-Trent in the winter sun. How beautiful Stoke looked…

More later.
