My research trip to Devon

March 30, 2008 | 3 Comments

A few quick pictures of our trip in ‘Bill’ the vintage VW campervan who stars in the book I’m writing now called It Should Have Been Me. In this story, the characters make a trip in the summer when it’s hot! They spend a lot of the time in bikinis and shorts but we were well wrapped up in outdoor gear.

First, here’s my husband with ‘Bill’ at Arlington Court, a grand house which overlooks Exmoor.

Here’s me at Baggy Point, above Croyde Beach - a famous surfing beach (there are surfers in the book).

This book has needed a lot of research and I’m very grateful to all the people who have helped me, some of whom spend their time saving lives (ahem).

We got back from our camper van trip to Devon last night. It was very chilly and a bit cramped but also really good fun - and we had gorgeous sunny weather. I also did some research for the book I’m now 3/4 way through - one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done but I can’t tell you about it!

I am so busy catching up with work and writing right now but hope to post some photos soon.

PS I just got the actual cover proof for Just Say Yes. It’s absolutely gorgeous in yellow and blue.

Fowl fiction

March 19, 2008 | 2 Comments

This is so cool. I got mentioned (with Rosy Thornton) on the Fowl Fanfiction site, which is a fan zine for the Artemis Fowl books. I am so proud to have begun my novel career as a fanfiction author. Fanfiction must be the biggest literary genre on the planet yet most people have never heard of it. It is much maligned yet there are some superb fanfiction writers out there. There are now three published authors from our North & South site alone - and surely more to come.

You don’t have to follow a specific route into writing or dance to anyone’s tune. It doesn’t matter how you begun or what you like writing. Just do it!

Auction update

Some of you know I’ve been gathering signed books for a charity appeal. I hope I’ll be able to publicise it online to allow more people to bid. It’s for a very good cause that touches almost everyone.

Wish You Were Here goes Large

March 18, 2008 | 2 Comments

The good news is:

Those lovely people at Ulverscroft are publishing a large print edition of Wish You Were Here in June 2008..

The bad news is:

‘Arctic’ conditions are forecast for Easter and we are going off to Devon in a vintage campervan as research for It Should Have Been Me.

Richard Armitage in Spooks

March 17, 2008 | 4 Comments

The news is out that Richard Armitage is to take over the lead in BBC spy drama Spooks. He’s to play Lucas North, an officer who has been in a Russian jail for eight years. Read about it in The Sun here.

PS How many people can say that their task for Monday morning is to write a steamy sex scene? I tell you, it’s hot here in my little office… I really need to do my business invoicing but that can wait. Whew.
