Birthday cake anyone?

August 31, 2008

This beautiful cake was baked for the 21st birthday celebrations of Burntwood Library in Staffordshire – and I had to cut it! Here I am with the library staff posing for the photographer (the lovely Allan Williamson from the Lichfield Mercury, where I used to work.)

Loads of people turned up to celebrate the birthday and re-launch of the library after recent major work there. I had a great time and want to thank Stafforshire Library service for asking me to be a guest at the party.

Now onto Wombourne Library on Wednesday night with Nell Dixon.

Review of Just Say Yes

August 28, 2008

There’s a review of Just Say Yes over on Single Titles.

‘Sharp, sexy and exuberant’. I like that. I don’t often feel all three – wish I could bottle it. :)

You can read the full reviewhere. Made my day!

Library events and a meeting with The Doctor

August 26, 2008

I’m having a week of library events starting on Saturday August 30 at 11am when I’ve been asked to ‘relaunch’ Burntwood library in Staffordshire. The library is 21 years old this month – and so is my daughter in two weeks time.

I’ve got to make a short speech and cut a special celebratory cake. I’ve never been asked to do a civic duty before but I am honoured! And it’s an excuse to have my hair done and wear a frock on a Saturday morning.

Then I’m doing two events with LBD author, Nell Dixon. We’ll be chatting about our work and giving writing tips.

Wombourne Library 3/9/08 – 7.15 pm

Burntwood Library 11/9/08 – 2pm (TBC)

We’d love to see you if you can make it to any of these events.

Finally, the bank holiday weekend wasn’t all work. Look who I bumped into at the health club. :)

Sunday morning…

August 24, 2008

..and I’m working on some copy. Boo hoo. But I’ve ‘come across’ two distractions for writers. The first is a Little Black Dress short story contest. The prize is to have your story printed in an LBD book.

Secondly, do you need an agent? I mean, do you actually need one? My totally personal answer is yes, yes, yes or I would make a complete idiot of myself but this article in The Guardian argues that you don’t always need an agent to get published. Of course, there is far more to an agent’s work than just getting you into print…

Holidays…

August 23, 2008

Looking forward to a lovely weekend with my daugher and Mr B who are both home. Later we’re off in search of glamorous wellies for an agricutural show (for Ms B). That’s my exciting weekend – but it sounds perfect right now.

Have a good break. I’ve got some library talks coming up with Nell Dixon and next Saturday, believe it or not, I’ve been asked to open a library. Now, that will be a first. I’d better practise being on best behaviour.
