London calling

January 31, 2007

It’s turning out to be a busy but very good week so far. Getting the email about the NWS award on Sunday night was a great boost as I wasn’t sure if I’d missed out on entering. Howeve, the RNA are very organised (unlike me.)

I’m off to London tomorrow until Friday night and excited as usual. I’m going on business but mainly pleasure. I set off on the afternoon train from our quiet on-the-edge-of-town-station. There are usually only a handful of people waiting on the platform and the train is very quiet until Coventry or Milton Keynes. Under two hours later I step out into Euston. I know I should grow up and not act like Dick Whittington but that’s how I feel. The bright lights, traffic, shops and buzz are fab. I’m getting used to it now but I’ll never forget the first time I went to the RNA party, to meet my agent and to visit my editor at Headline, all within 12 hours. Somewhere about Rugby, I had a moment of overwheming panic and disorientation but fortunately there was no one else in the carriage to watch me dissolve!

I know what you mean! London has that effect on me too. I always suspect they’ll see the straw sticking out of my ears like the country bumpkin I am. lol
