It just isn’t cricket

August 1, 2007

Really funny (and ahem spookily accurate) article about being a First Time Author in The Times Online.

I actually read this over a coffee at the weekend but it’s now on the web.

I’ve reached 50k in my book and obesessing over a scene of gratuitous titillation and whether, strictly, it fits the hero’s motivation. It probably ought to be cut but a previous scene of gratuitious titillation was one of the most popular scenes in Decent Exposure so it might stay until I can bear to hack it.

Liz Fenwick (who IMHO has one of the best-kept UK blogs on writing romance) posted a pic of me, looking stunned and weird, accepting the NWS award from Jan Jones at the RNA Conference. Here it is, I hope Liz doesn’t mind. Katie Fforde is on the edge. I am not worthy…

Meanwhile I came across this far prettier photo from a Hugo Boss ad. It’s the England cricket team and who cares if they’ve had a bit of a wobble at the moment? Look at those arms, the chunky watches, the strong-yet-sensitive wedding rings, the battered leather bracelet, Kevin P’s patriotic tattoo. Ready for a bit of sledging, boys?

England preapring to bowl a maiden over (they wish).

The ‘First Time Author’ thing is very funny – but what is this guy stressing about??? His book is actually in the mainstream bookshops – and being blogged about all over the web – and he actually saw a real member of the public reading it!!! He is way past the stage of needing to buy copies himself to make his Amazon rating rise from 178,000 to 177,999…..

    Enjoy your gratuitous titillation!!

    xx
