When is a book a ‘real’ book?

August 12, 2011

It’s a book, Jim, but not as we know it…

I’m guesting at the awesome Talli Roland’s blog today. Talli is the author of The Hating Game and Watching Willow Watts and a brilliant blogger too.

You can take a look at the blog post here, it’s about having faith in your own work and how difficult that can be sometimes.

Chanpreet was the winner of the contest last week – congrats! Please contact me to get your copy of Fever Cure.

I’m planning the print launch of Fever Cure for early next year with my publisher. More updates soon.

I finally visited Lacock at the weekend – the Wiltshire village where so many costume dramas and movies are filmed, including Harry Potter, Pride & Prejudice 1995 and Cranford.

Here are a few pics:

Customers who bought this book also bought…

August 4, 2011

First, thanks to all of you buying Fever Cure! It’s always a little scary sending a book out there – particularly as this is a digital first publication – and to see people actually reading it, reviewing it, and adding it on Goodreads, B&N, Amazon etc makes me feel great!

One of my favourite obsessed-author things to do is to look at the other books that readers buy with mine. It’s fascinating for me to see what readers are interested in and gives me an idea of ‘where’ I might fit. The other books you’ve been buying are a fantastic mix of British chick lit, romantic comedy, bonkbusters, American contemporary romance, Mills & Boon Modern and RIVA romances. It’s no surprise that many of the authors on this list are favourites of mine too.

Owning a Kindle has also made me look more closely at what I might enjoy reading that’s a little out of my comfort zone – that’s the beauty of free reads.

If you’re an author, why not give it a go? If you’re a reader- are you influenced by the Other Books features on Amazon?

Here’s a current list of the other authors that Amazon customers have been buying with Fever Cure.

Trisha Ashley
Robyn Kaye
Susan Andersen
Jill Mansell
Jilly Cooper
Heidi Rice
Jessica Hart
Lauren Dane
Jill Shalvis
Sara Manning
Jane Costelloe
Marisa Mackle
Lisa Kleypas
Lauren Dane
Erin McCarthy
Molly Hopkins
Julia Wlliams
Sophie Page
Susan Elizabeth Phillips
India Grey
Sarah Morgan
Liz Fielding
Abby Green
Harriet Evans
Sharon Kendrick
Sue Moorcroft
Jane Lovering
Julie Ortolon

Anyone who comments will be entered into a contest to win a PDF copy of Fever Cure. I’ll leave the contest open until after the weekend.

The Kindle has landed

July 29, 2011

Door sign from my friend, Jan

My family got me a Kindle for my birthday – with 3G, a smart blue leather cover and a light.

It’s like reading a real book – except not like reading a book. It’s just …different and amazing and very very dangerous. It is *so* easy to press a button and buy a book. Instant gratification!

I immediately went to amazon.co.uk and downloaded three free books: after all, I decided, people have been downloading my free book so here’s my chance to get a piece of the action.

My first three downloads are:

Wild Justice by Liz Fielding
Chase Brothers by Lauren Dane
Great American Road Trips – a Lonely Planet mini guide

Today, I’m going to meet Ms B and some Texan friends from C19. But here’s an example of my mum’s creative gift wrapping, with flowers from her garden:

S*x for the over 40s…

July 27, 2011

Thanks to Grendel for the pic!

It’s my birthday today, and I don’t mind admitting that this is another one that starts with a four. 🙂

I’m hoping that the big Hairy Birthday Fairy might bring me a Kindle later but for now, I can just hope.

While surfing the web I happened on a story in the Times of India that Amazon is launching the Kindle there next year. What an opportunity for authors everywhere, I thought, and then that page led me to another story in that newspaper. Tracy Cox’s S*x Guide According to your Age.

According to the article:

Women(in their 40s)get sexually very demanding, often being attracted to younger men.

Hey, thanks a lot Tracy. Although Mr B did kindly inform me late last night that he only had ten more minutes to enjoy being in bed with a younger woman.

I could quote some more of Tracy’s advice to 40-something men, but don’t want to alarm Mr B or cause my mum, in laws and daughter any more embarrassment than I already have.

I’m off to lunch with my parents later and Mr B and I are having dinner at home, before meeting Ms B and some Texan friends on Friday for a birthday meal.

Have a good day!

PS Just in case you might not have heard, I have a sexy new book out. It’s called Fever Cure and features two s*xually demanding younger people. Just a coincidence, of course. You can be mildly shocked by it here or here.

Hitting the wall

July 26, 2011

If you are a regular reader of this blog, It won’t have escaped your notice that I’ve been pretty busy over the past six months, burning the candle at both ends. I’ve launched Fever Cure and Wish You Were Here and finished a new wip, codenamed Miranda.

In the middle of last week, I hit a wall. I think I had a bug or was just knackered, but I got a headache lasting four days, had no energy and ended up asleep in the middle of the afternoon on three days. This morning, I felt back to normal and went to a spinning (cycling) class. I lasted 10 mins before feeling a bit faint so now I’m back home again.

I think I need to take a little more time away to recharge my batteries.

One thing I could do while I wasn’t feeling good, was listen to Test Match Special Cricket on the radio – England vs India. England won, thanks partly to the bowling of one Jimmy Anderson. That definitely cheered me up!
