Open Book

April 15, 2007

This Radio Four programme is an absolute must-listen for anyone who wants to be a published author or is perhaps (cough) newly published.

Mariella Frostrup talks to publishers and authors about how they work together to create the best possible book on Open Book.

She investigates publishing houses, and how they work with authors to nurture and develop their talent. She talks to veteran publisher Anthony Cheetham, Stephen Page of Faber and authors including Tracy Chevalier and Rose Tremain.

In this special programme Mariella also uncovers the secrets of tactful and helpful editing and finds out why Quarantine author Jim Crace thinks writers should be more cheerful.

(This last part being perhaps the most useful bit of advice for me!)
