I’m back – almost in one piece!
May 17, 2007
I got back from Grenada/St Lucia yesterday and there is so much to tell, on a personal and writing front. Mr Bennet and I have had a fabulous holiday – Grenada, still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, was particularly special.
I’ll post some pics over the next few days and reveal some of the good news I received from my agent and publisher – and most of all from my daughter, who hasn’t been too well but has had an all clear and is feeling much better.
I said I was almost in one piece… On the flight home, a little mishap between the cabin crew and my husband resulted in a cup of hot black coffee flying over me. My arm was a bit scalded, but that was OK. As I jumped up with a shriek, I hit my bare foot against the metal of the seat in front and (hide your eyes), ripped a nail right off my foot and possibly fractured my toe.
After being patched up by the gorgeous Max and his crew, I had to be transported through Gatwick airport in a wheel chair, with a burn dressing on my arm and wearing a pair of lime green flight socks. The only consolation was that I got a fast track through immigration and passport control. 🙂
As we queued to get our flight, Simon le Bon from Duran Duran and his wife were next to us – well, they were in the Upper Class queue and we were in Economy! According to some friends we met (who had been staying at the Jalousie Plantation, St Lucia), the famous couple had been attending a wedding – but that is only ‘hearsay’.;) Simon and his lady seemed very nice and friendly and posed happily for a photo with one of the passengers. I shall be checking out OK! magazine next week! I resisted the urge to ask for his autograph we didn’t see him when we disembarked or I might have tried to play the sympathy card – my socks were excruciating.
Later, I popped to the Minor Injuries unit at the community hospital and now have a lovely bandaged foot.
I have 14 days for my toe to heal sufficiently to be able to squeeze my feet into my pointy bronze shoes for the RNA Summer Party. More news tomorrow. I’m off to phone my agent about the exciting news… and my toe.
And…I’m on Touch FM tomorrow (eeek!!!) and will be running the Wish You Were Here Contest next Monday.
PS Hi there and welcome to all the Simon le Bon and Duran fans suddenly visiting my blog!

Definitely OUCH! Did they give you some kind of compensation…like a free trip to where you’ve just been?!? Hopefully it isn’t causing you too much pain.
And it’s soooo not fair to tease us like this, especially since some people already know your news! I shall be in the library revising all day (again) tomorrow but will be taking regular breaks to check your blog for your news!! It’s obviously good so CONGRATULATIONS!
