Just Say Yes
January 8, 2008
I’ve got a new publication date for Just Say Yes on Amazon. It’s out in paperback onAugust 7th 2008.
It seems a long time to wait but it is just perfect for the holiday season, especially as the book is about escaping to Cornwall. Julie Cohen has been talking about settings on her blog today. Here’s a pic that inspired me for JSY. It’s taken at Watergate Bay, Cornwall and shows the RNLI Lifeguards working on a blustery and bitter cold September day last year. The lifeguards make a brief appearance in Just Say Yes and they’re going to figure in It Should Have Been Me. I love rescue heroes and until I have the setting for a book, I just can’t write it. I love using the setting as a metaphor for the themes of the book and the characters’ feelings and just imagining myself in some sunny place – or even a cold one. What about you?
Nell Dixon Says:
Blue Remembered Heels has a July date now I think. Watergate bay is a really cool place. Will there be surfers???
Jessica Raymond Says:
I totally agree with you, Pip. I love it when a setting actually links in with the story — not just physically, but emotionally too. That would explain why I chose to do my English Lit A-Level essay on “the significance of nature and landscape in Wuthering Heights”!

Phillipa Says:
Nell – there aren’t surfers – I leave that to you. There are sailors and windsurfers because i know a tiny bit more about those activities than surfing. 🙂 You are a shelf mate of Julie’s which is cool.
Jess – That sounds a lot more interesting than the essays I got.
Debs Says:
I agree and think that to know the setting helps with the visualisation of the plot. Love the pic, it looks a bit like one of the bays over here. Looking forward to reading JSY.
Jessica Raymond Says:
Well, I was quite lucky because we got to pick our own books and our own essay subjects — we just had to run them past the teacher first. Pretty lucky, I suppose 🙂
