Smudge
July 22, 2008
Well, after yesterday’s jaunty start to the day, things went rapidly downhill. We found our rabbit, Smudge, very poorly in his run and the upshot was, he had to be put to sleep by the vet. Later we buried him under the holly tree in our garden. Cue, floods of tears from all of us – the vet’s assistant had to give us a box of tissues. Smudge may have been only a rabbit, but he was a much loved pet nonetheless.
We’ve had him about 11 years since my daughter was at primary school. He was a baby rescue rabbit from the RSPCA. Together, me, Mr Bennet, my daughter – but largely my father-in-law – have looked after him. He was not a cuddly rabbit who loved being snuggled but he had a sparky, lively personality. He tended to hold us all in disdain but his favourite activities included eating yoghurt rabbit pips and being let out of his run to race round the garden. He also drew out the contest entries. I’m going to ask my daughter and father in law, Charles, to do that from now on.
Isn’t it horrible when you lose a pet? You get so very attached to them. 🙁

Oh, Pip, I’m so sorry. Pets are members of the family just like the rest of us and it’s always terrible to lose them. ((HUGS))
Michelle Styles Says:
Sorry only a rabbit — he was a much loved family pet. Your grief is entirely understandable. Pets are so much part of our lives.
Massive hugs.
Julie Says:
Hugs Phillipa. I lost a much loved dog two years ago and I still feel her loss. Pets are a part of our lives and Smudge has given you and your family a lot of joy and happiness.
Nell Dixon Says:
Leaving you an extra hug.

Sorry to read about Smudge, it’s horrible losing a pet as they are such a large part of our lives.
Apologies for the delay in this comment but am having a nightmare with my computer at the moment and it won’t allow me to do very much.
Phillipa Says:
Thnaks everyone. It all seems very quiet outside by his run, even though he never made a sound. We haven’t cleared out the hutch as we’re taking some time to see if want some more bunnies.
Debs – what a pain about the PC. Thanks anyway.
