Green shoots

Why aren’t I blogging much? Because I’m a – earning a living and b – totally rewriting the current wip, It’s My Party, in my spare time. It has grown to 108k in the layering and I’m only about 1/5 way through the revising. It’s got quite an intricate plot with several strands and the first draft was 100k. I should have known it needed more of almost everything. I think the extra bits are called character development and motivation… 🙂

However, the daffodils and crocuses are poking through the earth which is an encouraging sign. I hope to finish my rewrites by spring.
And I think it must have been The Best Idea Ever to have a joint signing with Nell. She’s posted a notice on one site.
Two award-winning authors in one place – we also have chocolate.
If you’re struggling to get published, don’t give up. We could never have dreamed of what would happen to us just two years ago. I certainly don’t know how it happened to me – especially while I’m trying to wrestle this new book into submission!

I’m glad to hear you say you re-write – I think some of us aspiring writers think we’re failing because we hold the silly notion that an *actual* writer gets a perfect manuscript first time! :p It’s great to have an insight!
I can’t wait to read It’s My Party. :0)

Elle. Oh yes, I *always* rewrite. My first book, Decent Exposure had several versions and an NWS critique. My second had some stiff revisions and both the last two have been rewritten by me and had some edits. That’s an editor’s job – we couldn’t do without them. You need that objective distance.
I get SO mad when people say ‘oh, you do churn them out!’ after all the work. Bear in mind too, that most published books have had critique partners, agents, editors, copy eds and proof readers all look at them before they make it to Amazon. 🙂

Thanks for the encouragements re aspiring authors.
Inspiring to think that it can ‘just happen’ like a whirlwind, dream dream…
Looking forward to devouring It’s My Party when it’s out there.

Am hanging in there – keep the encouragement coming!
