Cringeworthy queries, minor disasters and the rug doctor
April 8, 2009
I’m signing off the blog for an extended Easter break. My latest ms has gone off to my agent and if/when I have any news about it, you’ll all be the first to know.
I feel calmer today, but I spent yesterday shouting, swearing and shedding a few tears as one of my business clients has filed for insolvency, owing me a good chunk of the cash I’ve earned from copywriting over the past five months. So it seems I’ve been working for nothing… it was the last straw to be honest and I flipped. My mum heard words from me she’s never heard before!
Easter will be spent at home with my family and the Rug Doctor (a carpet cleaning machine not a brooding, handsome medic bearing bleach.) It’s no coincidence that my agent’s coming to stay next week as she’s giving a talk at the local writers’ group. I’ve even ironed the linen on the spare bed in her honour. I hope she likes cuddly seals and Ty beanie babies…
Finally, if you want a smile and to find out how NOT to approach an agent/publisher, check out the winning entries in Nicola Morgan’s Cringeworthy Queries contest.
Have a lovely Easter break!

Oh Pip how awful re your news. I want to hug/squeeze you and throw something in your honour (a vase or a plate, or even a party, you choose?!)
Anyway. Clearly bad stuff makes you all the more able to tickle my funny bone because I laughed out loud a lot (especially at the Rug Doctor and the cuddly seals).
Now that’s one rug doctor I like the sound of working up a sweat with. You may be having it tuff but you really are an amazingly witty TONIC!
P.S. Please do not throw any cuddly seals (or swear at them).
P.P.S. Have you tried creme egg therapy?

Jude – thanks for the hugs. Much appreciated. 🙂 I blubbed and ranted on and off all day yesteday because one by one, my clients have all bitten the dust or have no spare work. But this one has been ordering work until the letter from the insolvency agents arrived on my doormat. No one would have told me.
I’e tried to be cheerful today but things are pretty pants here at the mo, biz wise. I am keepign everything crossed for some better news soon, but until then I’ll clean my filthy lounge carpet and maybe start another book next week.
