From Devon to the US Embassy
May 3, 2011
Warning: yet another tale of our opulent author lifestyle…
Today I travelled with the elegant and glamorous Nell Dixon to our capital city, by means of London Midland railways.
Our purpose was to visit the US Embassy to the Court of St James in Grosvenor Square on a matter related to taxation. However, I will refrain from giving details as discussion of money is so vulgar, don’t you think?
Nell and I arrived via a hackney carriage to find an armed escort awaiting us at the gates of the Embassy. As we were travelling incognito, minus our designer outfits, the staff did not recognise us and we were subject to the usual search procedure. Nell’s keys and mobile were confiscated and placed in a plastic bag. I was required to unscrew my water bottle and drink some of the beverage to prove it was not a weapon of mass destruction.
Thankfully, we were not subject to a body scanner as my recent trips to Devon and the Lakes have involved much consumption of cream teas.
We were then permitted to enter the hallowed portals of the embassy proper and, after a discussion with the witty IRS man (who says Americans don’t have a sense of irony?), our documents were deemed worthy of being forwarded to the IRS service in Texas.
Nell and I then repaired to a nearby cafe for luncheon. Unfortunately, no one recognised us as celebs in there either. Next time, I must wear my Jimmy Choos. Nell has vowed to be in Alexander McQueen.

Okay. You may have guessed that prior to today’s adventure, I’ve been on holiday to Devon where I had my first ever surfing lesson. I fell off a lot and ached all over the next day but it was amazing.
We then went to the Lakes where we had a BBQ at our flat to celebrate my dad’s birthday.

What an exciting life you famous authors lead! The Embassy sounds scarey – eaxacvtly what I would have imagined it to be like!
Nell Dixon Says:
Your account is much more glam than mine. The guns were a bit scary tho.
